Freelance Marketplaces
Freelance marketplaces split by how you place work. On Coconala and Fiverr you buy a listed service at a stated price, with no quoting back and forth. On CrowdWorks, Lancers and Upwork you post a job and wait for proposals, which suits hourly and ongoing work. For Japanese-language work in Japan, look at Coconala, CrowdWorks and Lancers; for overseas talent or English work, Fiverr and Upwork.
How to choose
- Is the spec fixed? A single defined deliverable is fastest through a listing. Work you refine as you go is easier to budget on an hourly contract through a job post.
- Fee structure: a flat rate versus tiers by contract size flips which platform is cheaper for small and large jobs. Each product page lists the actual rates.
- Selection effort: job posts that draw many proposals take time to choose from. Whether you have that time is part of the decision.
