Notion AI is not a standalone writing tool but an AI layer inside a Notion workspace. Its strongest feature is Q&A: ask in natural language and it synthesises an answer from documents across the whole workspace, which turns accumulated notes, meeting records and specs into a queryable knowledge base. No standalone writing tool replaces that, which is why comparing it head-to-head with Jasper or Copy.ai misses the point.
The billing changed in May 2025, though, and that complicates the decision. You used to be able to attach an AI add-on at roughly $8–10 a month to the free plan or to Plus; that add-on was retired. Using AI now requires the Business plan ($20/user/month billed annually, $24 monthly), and Plus ($10/user/month annually) does not include it. Existing add-on subscribers keep grandfathered access.
So the real question is whether AI is worth an extra $10 per person per month — the step from Plus to Business. For a team of ten that is $1,200 a year. If Notion is already your company-wide workspace and being able to question the documents in it has value, that gap is easy to justify. If Notion is still a notepad for you, there is little reason to upgrade to Business purely for AI, and a separate general-purpose chat tool will be cheaper. Notion AI assumes your data is already in Notion; where that assumption is weak, the spend does not come back.
